A MODERN TAKE ON AFRICAN PRINT

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting Maureen who is the Designer and Founder of the Nanawax brand specializing in contemporary African garments and swimwear. She contacted me through instagram, which is where most business seems to happen these days. We set up a meeting at 08:30am on a sunny Sunday morning as we both had engagements later in the day. I had just completed an intense five days of fashion week the night before but I never say no to potential partnerships.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Nanawax brand, you may have seen their swimwear on Bonang Matheba from her recent trip to Thailand circulating instagram (here). I chatted to Maureen about her business and how she got started, at the young age of 29 she has managed to open 5 stores all in African countries with the exception of one store in France and all in less than 5 years. As an aspiring fashion entrepreneur myself, her story was incredibly inspirational and once again made me realize that anything in possible with focus and determination.

I selected quite a few items from the Nanawax collection including swimwear but I have yet to decide if I'll be showing those on the blog. For the next few weeks I'll be sharing some of my favorite items and I hope you love them as much as I do.
