Spring is at our doorstep; well at least those of us in the Southern Hemisphere and you know what that means... WEDDING SEASON. There's always been a lot of controversy around wearing white to a wedding. Most people (women in particular) would never be caught dead wearing white to a wedding, especially not a dress (catastrophe!). However, with white being the hottest trend for several seasons now, does it really hurt as much as people think it does? In fact, do people really care as much as you think they do? No matter how you look at it, she's the bride and no matter how hard you try, you will never steal her thunder, it's her day. But for those of you who are still a bit nervous, here are a few guidelines:
Keep it simple
The most important thing to remember is to keep it simple. When wearing white to a wedding, the last thing you want to do is appear to be competing with the bride so stay away from long flowy dresses and I mean it. The best advice I can give you is to wear a short dress with a conservative hemline; above, below or precisely on the knee.
Try something different
It's not essential for you to wear a dress. Try something different; perhaps an elegant jumpsuit or a slim fit white suit (note to self: I need this in my life). Separates also work really great; a classic skirt or pant with a sheer top will do the trick, why not take it one step further by adding a sleeveless vest - those are huge right now.
The rule above all rules is to remember that you're there to celebrate the couple, it's all about them and it's important for you to respect that. Weddings are elegant events that need to be treated with the utmost respect and what you wear counts. Refrain from wearing a freekum dress - don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about; every girl has a mini to rival all mini's hanging in the back of her closet, gathering dust, waiting for the perfect moment and trust me a wedding is just not that moment.
There are many ways that white can be worn to a wedding, so much that I've decided to do my very first blog series regarding this topic so keep an eye out for more tips and ideas.
Hope you enjoy and I'd love to hear your thoughts!
