I read a quote that struck me recently, it read: "A candle never loses any of its flame by lighting another candle" and its stuck with me ever since. It got me thinking about another quote that I've come to love, which reads: "Behind every successful woman is herself" which brought me to a third quote that reads: "The success of every woman is an inspiration to another". You might be wondering what the significance of these quotes are so lets go into it.
We all love a good quote right? Some empower us and others connect us with our deepest thoughts, nonetheless, it stirs up something within us. When reviewing some of my favourite quotes I realised that one speaks of backing yourself up while the others speaks of lifting and inspiring others, which posed a question: why is it that women always feel the need to protect themselves from other women. How hard can it be for us to support one another, compliment one another and light the candle of the woman in the dark?
There's enough room for each and every one of us to shine. Our goals are different, our dreams are different and I firmly believe we've got the resources to advance one another, so why is it so challenging for us? Is it the fear that our peers will shine brighter than us even if it's not our time to shine? Is it the fear that they're stronger than us, more beautiful than us, smarter than us? Do we feel like an object of ridicule amongst their friends? Admit it, at some point we've all felt this way but you know what? It's up to us to be the change we want to see. So I challenge you, not only for women's month but in your everyday life to light another woman's candle.
Happy Women's Month!
